You’ve seen the ads: “Lose weight
in just two weeks!” “Eat the foods you what and watch the
pounds melt off!” “6 pound in 6 days!” If you need to
lose some weight - and these days many Americans do- these easy weight
lose programs are tempting. But as the adage goes, if it sounds too good
to be true, it probably is.
It should be no surprise the fad diets are flourishing. Currently, about
one-third of all American adults are obese (20% over their desired body
weight). Unfortunately, obesity is not easy to treat. While losing weight
over the short term is relatively easy, keeping it off has proven to be
much harder. The key to long- term weight lose is not a short term diets,
but rather lifelong lifestyle changes.
In simplest terms, the golden rule to weight lose is to burn off more
calories than you consume. Everyone understands this concept, but I
think
it has been simplified too much. Counting calories should be secondary
to how you balance your
diet between the essential macronutrients of protein, fat, and carbohydrates.
If your goal is to lose body fat and increase muscular tone, you want
to keep your metabolism roaring. First start by cutting out the unnecessary
calorieswhile maintaining at least 1200 calories a day. Some of you are
probably thinking, how can someone survive on only 1200 calories. Limiting
your calories forces your body
into a starvation yet survivor mode. You will lose weight but will also
lose vital muscle tissue. Your skin will have thick flabby appearance
instead of a smooth toned glow. So if your goal is to lose body fat
and increase muscular tone, reve up your metabolism! Eat but eat clean.
